SYNOPSIS

Il documentario ricostruisce la storia del mercato civico di Sassari dagli scritti di Enrico Costa, raccontando l’animo popolare, culturale ed economico del mercato sassarese e dei suoi personaggi. Le immagini di archivio e le interviste agli ortolani, allevatori e pescivendoli disegnano una vita trascorsa nello storico luogo di scambio cittadino e i cambiamenti avvenuti dei dintorni produttivi della città.  La chiusura definitiva della vecchia area del Mercato Civico ha certamente segnato un cambiamento per il cuore storico della città, ma senza cancellare nell’immaginario collettivo il fascino dell’ antica agorà.

The documentary film reconstructs the history of the civic market from the writings of Enrico Costa, telling the popular, cultural and economic spirit of the Sassari’s market and its characters,. Photographic archives and interviews to the agricultural workers, the cattle breeding with the butchers and the fish sellers design a life spent around the historical place for trade and the changes of the new urban “face” marked by the economic evolution of the city nowadays. The final closure of the old the civic market’s area has certainly marked a turning point in the historical heart of the city, but without erasing the fascination of the ancient  “agora” in the collective imagination
